My name is Liping Ren. I was born in Shanghai, China in 1983.
2. What led you to become an entrepreneur?
When I was growing up, my family always compared me to others: relatives, friends and neighbours. They would compare my academic results, my looks and my temperament etc. Every few sentences, they would say: “The others are like so and so but look at yourself.” I was rather proud when I was younger in my junior high school years. Every time they said that, I always thought I must be independent and must live a better life than them.
During the summer holidays during my high school, I often worked part time, for example, as a sales person in a big shopping mall or set up a street stall. I realized from working in shopping malls that as long as I was diligent and I had a smile on my face, customers would make big purchases. That was the first time that I felt the happiness from providing good services to others. Of course, the most important thing was that I started getting an income and I felt that I became richer. It turned out that economic independence was so important that slowly my family had a less influence on what I did with that. This I think was why I had became an entrepreneur; using my own hands and passionate service to exchange for corresponding rewards!
3. Please discuss your business with us. What it is and what services you provide.
I have had my company for over 10 years. My company started in the printing business. Gradually I found that my customers’ needs have changed and I began to reduce their workload for them. For example, I helped them to do PowerPoint, wrote materials, did marketing, did events, supported their operations with WeChat, made training manuals and designed brochures etc. Gradually, many customers were getting used to my services. With them I was not only a supplier anymore. With many of them we became friends. So now my company should be regarded more of a customer service company!
4. Where would you like to position your business five years from now?
I think my company should stay the same way in 5 years time as today in the way that it will serve its customers well.
5. Are there any words of encouragement that you would like to offer to early stage women entrepreneurs interested in venturing into your industry.
Life is like a mirror: when you smile at it, it will smile at you back. Enjoy the hardships and joys that life has to bring. There will be endless amount to reminisce afterwards.
